Dec. 26...Santa Came!

Santa came to our house a day late. (He was stuck in a Blizzard) On Saturday morning, my parents, brother and sister, and grandma came over to watch her open presents. When she woke up, her daddy walked her into the living room. She was starring at everyone wondering what they were doing here. Then she went straight to the kitchen.

She knew exactly what to do. She was stirring the spoon in the pan on the stove. (Obviously didn't get this from me!)

She also got a shopping cart. I see our walls getting beat up in the near future!
(If you haven't heard of Melissa & Doug, go check their website out. Awesome educational toys for kids. This cart is so sturdy and has a flip prevention on the bottom, so she can't stand up on it and tip it over on her!)

After having three Christmas's she didn't get any faster at opening presents!

After opening presents, I made Christmas pancakes. KK seemed to enjoy them.

After we celebrated Christmas, it was off to clean up the house and pack for our week long Tahoe vacation!

Christmas with Macie

Every year we get the girls together to do their own special Christmas. Michelle and Brandon, Jessica, Randy and Macie came to our house this year. We had planned on cooking a warm tasty soup and relaxing by the fire, but as you have read from my previous posts, we were out of time for that! So Christmas night everyone came over and opened presents. One highlight of the night was Macie teaching KK the "Ring around the Rosie" moves. It was so funny to watch. Here they are when you say "all fall down!"

The Girls and their babies! (Yes, Michelle is holding her dog...that's her baby!)

Christmas Day

Nothing like waking up Christmas morning in a hotel room! Yes, that's how we got to spend our Christmas morning. At least baby girl isn't old enough to understand. After eating a quick free breakfast downstairs and chatting with others about their blizzard stories, we were on the road back to Texas! As we were driving, I had to take a few pics of the road. It was crazy!

We saw hundreds of cars on the side of the interstate like this.

We got to Texas just too see more snow! We decided that once we arrived at my parent's house that we would let KK play in the snow. Uncle Scooter and his friend helped her build a snowman. They forgot to put arms on it, so silly Scooter decided he would use his arms.

After playing in the snow for a bit, it was time for Christmas Dinner.

Yes, once again KK made a mess and it was straight for the bath after dinner.
After dinner KK got to open up her presents. She got lots of wooden puzzles, an American Girl Bitty Baby and outfit, other toys that she probably doesn't need, but her favorite toy was...

the pink motorcycle!
Yes, that's Maggie our dog in the side car of her pink motorcycle! Thanks GiGi & Poppy!
(Now the question is, where is this going to go in our little house?)

Oklahoma Blizzard

35 is shut down! Not what we wanted to hear when we were stopped with nowhere to go and with a 16 month old in the back seat and not a lot of snacks in the truck. So we were in panic mode. What do we do? We were not going anywhere! Cars, semis, snow, were everywhere with no place to go. We could see the access road, but the only way you getting over there was via the ditch which didn't turn out to be too successfull for a few people already. So now what? We knew we had to get a hotel so I called and the closest one was 2 miles away! Like an eternity when the highway is stopped! So room is booked, but how we going to get there? After 2 1/2 hours of not going anywhere we knew we had to do something. So we inched our way on the shoulder of the interstate. (It had a wide shoulder) We drove it as far as we could before we saw this....

Okay so this is why noone is moving. They can't! We decided that the only way we were getting off this highway was to take our chances in the ditch. Gavin got out to see how deep it was. It went almost up to his calf but he thought if we put it in 4 wheel high we could make it. {Remind you he drives a F450} He backed up a little so he could hit the ditch going full speed. Snow goes everywhere!!! We couldn't see anything. I just sitting in the passenger seat praying "please lord, please lord..." whiled KK is in the back saying "weeeee." Someone forgot to tell her this is a state of emergency! :) We made it to the service road. I don't know how but thank God! So we take some side streets over and run into a CVS. Heck yes! Gavin runs in there and gets some snacks and milk for us. I call the hotel to get exact directions on how to get there. We were making the last turn onto the street the hotel is on when guess what....we get stuck!!! Yes the F450 isn't making it out of this. Gavin tried. Even took one of KK's Christmas presents she got and used it as a shovel. No luck.

his truck is on the left (there are two other abandoned stuck vehicles, too)
We decide to bundle up KK and take off walking to the hotel. It is about 150 yards away. Remind you the wind is blowing 40 mph so it is quite difficult to walk yet along run in. We make it to the hotel and check in. They had a snow shovel that Gavin borrowed. We went up to the room, while daddy shoveled the truck out of the snow.

not a care in the world!

Well, needless to say we are stuck at Comfort Inn & Suites in Norman, OK for the night. We are sad that we did not make it to my parents for Christmas Eve and won't be home Christmas morning, but we do have a lot to be thankful for. We could be one of the 100's of people stuck out on the interstate with no heat! We have the alarm set for 6:00am to head out, so hopefully we can make it home for Christmas dinner. We plan on decorating our Santa cookies tomorrow night and have Santa stop by Saturday Morning instead. At least I don't have to explain to KK why Santa didn't stop by the hotel. :) For now I will leave you with some winter wonderland pictures...

It's a blizzard out there....for real!

she has no idea what's going on

that's one big snow drift!

Merry Christmas Eve!

Christmas Eve In OKC

We woke up this morning in OKC to small pellets of ice hitting the hotel window. We knew that we needed to hurry up and get ready so we could get back our to Gavin's grandpa's house to do our Christmas then get on the road back to Texas before the roads got bad. We rushed around and got ready and then realized we should get diesel in the truck now so that is one less thing we had to do. We pulled into a cononco so happy because they actually had diesel just to find out that the pump was so slow that we weren't going to fill up this tank anytime soon. So we decided we could just get gas once we were on the road. {We had 1/2 a tank anyways}. Once we arrived at his grandpa's his mom was finishing up lunch. We started to realize that the weather was getting worse, so we knew we needed to speed this process up. So we opened up a few presents while his mom finished up lunch.

KK and her presents in OKC

after a few more presents we were off to eat lunch. In the meantime this is what it looked like outside...

the wind was blowing hard

We quickly ate and then finished opening presents. This time KK didn't get to enjoy opening them because daddy was ready to go before it got too bad. But wait...there is the Christmas Eve Pajama tradition picture. So everybody quickly unwrapped their PJ's and changed for a few pictures.

cute family, huh?

We got everything loaded and gave our hugs goodbye quickly. We pulled out of the driveway and the wipers were frozen. {good thing gavin bought some de-icer at the store earlier} He pulled into a gas station, that didn't sell diesel, and put the de-icer on the windows.

we were not prepared...can't you tell by no gloves?

We got on down the road and made it almost to Norman (20 minutes) before we were at a complete stop! 35 had been shut down due to the weather. This was what we were trying to avoid. I will post the thoughts and pictures about the Blizzard in OKC next! For now, hope everyone enjoys their Christmas Eve.

Opening up her first present!

We arrived in Oklahoma on the 23rd to spend Christmas Eve with Gavin's family. The night we arrived Miss KK got to open up a couple of presents from Gavin's aunt. This was a slow process. She would tear a small piece off and say "oooohh" and then another one and so forth.

a small tear...

there you go...rip it...

who wrapped this present twice....

starting to see the toy...

"oooooohhh"......

After she opened it she then wanted to move it around and show people.

and the process starts all over again....

This time daddy is going to help

can't you see her saying "ooooohh..."
By the way she loved this tea set! She walked around and shared her tea cup with everyone!

This is KK and her second cousin Ethan. She is trying to put her arm around him.
